About Fr. Jim:  Jim Anderson was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. His academic degrees include a BST in Theology from the Angelicum in Rome, a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D in Philosophy from Georgetown University.

Father»s military service included deployment as a line officer on the USS Iwo Jima during the Cuban Missile crisis.  Then, during the Cold War years, he did weekend warrior duty on several destroyers at Treasure Island, CA and Long Beach, CA and in the P3 anti-submarine warfare program in Moffet Field CA, NAS Lajes Azores, and at the NATO base in Naples, Italy.

After being ordained a priest in 1977, Father joined the Navy Chaplain corps and did weekend duty at Groton, CT and with U.S. Marines reserve rifle and truck companies in New Haven and Hartford, CT, while also working as the Dean of Academics and Admissions at Holy Apostles College in Cromwell, CT.

In 1988, Father went on active duty, serving with the 12th U.S. Marines in Okinawa and So. Korea, at the U.S. Naval hospital at Camp Pendleton in CA, aboard the USS Ranger during the first Gulf War, then at the U.S. Marine Corps air station Iwakuni in Japan and the Pacific Seabee base in Port Hueneme, CA.

Finally, Fr. Jim Anderson retired in 1999 holding the rank of Navy Capt. with 40 years of active and reserve duty.  After that retirement, Father settled, with the permission of his community with the Society of Missionaries of the Holy Apostles in Santa Maria, CA.  Currently, Father volunteers at the CMC State Prison in San Luis Obispo, CA and also assists at several local parishes.
